Emergency Travel Gear you Didn’t Know you Needed

May 20 //  by Davis

There are some fantastic outdoor gear lists out there. Many of them are comprehensive and are tailored to fit in with the various activities people enjoy .
Today, I thought we would take a closer look at the gear you need to consider packing when you start traveling again. In particular, items that, pre-coronavirus, you may not have worried about taking with you on a trip.

  • Devices to keep you up to date
  • A decent power bank
  • A water bottle with a built-in filter
  • A basic first aid kit
  • Spare meds
  • Make sure you can legally travel with these items

Devices to keep you up to date

Having a fully charged smartphone with you makes sense. It will enable you to stay up to date with the news and communicate to get more information and help.

You may also want to take a look at this Uniden bc75xlt police scanner. In countries where you are allowed to use them, they are a good way of monitoring what is going on in your local area. This can help you to realize at an early stage that you need to move to a safer area. If you are unlucky enough to get caught in civil unrest, this kind of device can help you to avoid trouble.

A decent power bank

It is important to be able to keep all of your devices charged. Power banks or folding solar panels are both good to have.

A water bottle with a built-in filter

You should always travel with water. Staying hydrated will help you to think straight. There are plenty of water bottles with built-in filters available. It is worth spending a little extra and buying one that can filter a lot of water. Remember to empty it before attempting to get on a flight and to refill it at the other end.

A basic first aid kit

Most people carry a few plasters, some antiseptic cream, and a few pain meds with them. These days, it is wise to step things up a notch and be prepared to treat minor illnesses and injuries yourself if you need to.

This excellent travel first aid list has been written by a registered nurse. The only thing I would add to it is a small thermometer and some cold meds. Just in case you feel ill and need to work out whether to seek medical help and self-isolate.

Spare meds

If you are on medication carry enough to get yourself through your trip. Plus a few weeks extra supply. That way if you get stranded you should have enough to get by. But, don’t go too crazy, as you don’t want to look like you are running drugs. This cautionary tale will help you to realize why you need to be careful and help you to get the balance right.

Make sure you can legally travel with these items

The above list is not meant to be comprehensive and I am not saying that every item on the list is essential for travel to every destination. Some of them will only need if you are traveling to countries that have poor infrastructure. Or to places where support may not be easy to access immediately.

When deciding what to take, you also need to think about whether you are legally allowed to carry those items. You don’t want to be stopped from getting on a flight or have a problem at the border because you are carrying something that is not legally allowed in the country you are traveling to.
